In a transaction, which brings together two of the North East’s leading cleaning companies, Litter Boss whose head office is in Newcastle, has acquired Bettakleen which is based in North Shields.
Litter Boss, owned by the 1996 North East Businessman of the Year Jim Johnson, has grown rapidly and reported turnover of £10.7m in 2006, up from £4.8m when he bought the business in 2001.
The company, which operates nationally and employs 325 staff, specialises in the External Cleaning, Landscaping and Gritting of Retail Parks, Business Parks, Leisure Parks and Industrial Estates.
Bettakleen, which specialises in the internal cleaning of Offices, Shopping Centres and Warehouses, employs over 300 staff and reported a turnover of £3.5m in 2006. Previous owners Gordon Banks and Brian Jackson will remain with the business for a minimum of 12 months.
Commenting on the transaction, Jim Johnson said, “The combined business will offer clients a fully comprehensive external and internal cleaning service. Prospects for the combined business will be significantly enhanced by the removal of barriers to entry in certain market segments and by the benefits of scale, which the larger business will enjoy”.
